On Thursday morning, country singer Granger Smith shared the "unthinkable news" that his 3-year-old son, River Kelly Smith, was dead.
"I have to deliver unthinkable news: we lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith," the 39-year-old announced on Instagram and Twitter. "After the tragic accident, and despite the doctor's best efforts, he was unable to be revived."
While the singer "Backroad Song" did not share many details about his son's "tragic accident", the representative of the country's star confirmed that the 3-year-old "died in a tragic drowning accident at home," a spokesman told publication in a statement.
In Granger's harrowing announcement, he shared this and his wife.
"Our family is devastated and distraught, but we take comfort in knowing that he is with his Heavenly Father. Riv was special, everyone who met him knew it immediately," he continued. "The joy that he brought into our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts".
