The Sherpa Kami Rita has climbed Mount Everest for the 23rd time, beating his own record of complete ascents to the highest mountain in the world. Nepalese government spokesman Gyanendra Shrestha reported that Rita reached the summit this morning with other climbers and they are all well.
His closest climbing companions reached 8,850 meters 21 times each, but both then withdrew.
In all there are 41 teams, for a total of 378 climbers, authorized to climb Everest this spring. A similar number of guides from Naples help them reach the summit.
