A star of the sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” donated $5,000 to the family of a California news anchor found dead in a Days Inn.
Kunal Nayyar, who has played nerdy astrophysicist Raj on 12 seasons of the CBS sitcom, made the largest contribution yet Sunday on a GoFundMe for the wife and 9-year-old daughter of late KTLA morning news anchor Chris Burrous, according to TMZ.
The fundraiser, set up by Gigi Graciette, a KTTV host, had raised $69,470 of its $75,000 goal by Tuesday.
“This account has been set up – with his family’s blessing – to help Chris’s wife Mai and nine-year-old daughter Isabella, the loves of his life,” Graciette wrote on the fundraising page. “Chris’s friends want to make sure Mai and Isabella have all the support they need during this difficult time.”
Burrous, who once worked at PIX 11 in the Big Apple, was found unresponsive at a Glendale Days Inn last week after a man he was with called police to report that he was passed out and possibly not breathing. He was 43.
The friend indicated to authorities that Burrous had possibly overdosed, but an exact cause of death hasn’t been determined yet. It can sometimes take weeks to get the results of toxicology tests.
The family is beginning to plan Burrous’ funeral, Graciette wrote Monday.
“The outpouring of love and support – thru your comments, prayers and donations – are a source of comfort during this trying and dark time,” Graciette wrote.
Another GoFundMe, set up by Mai Burrous’ sister Rosemary Do Silverstein, had raised $28,492 of its $50,000 goal by Tuesday.
“All funds will be used to help Mai take care of Isabella in the coming days, weeks, and months,” the page reads.
