Five boys and a woman died crushed in the crowd in a nightclub in Ancona while trying to escape from the venue where the concert of Sfera Ebbasta, the very popular artist of trap music, was scheduled
These are five minors and a mother who accompanied her son. The massacre took place during the night in the 'Lanterna azzurra' disco in Corinaldo, in the province of Ancona. Over a hundred injured, of which a dozen in serious condition.
The vice premier Luigi Di Maio gave the names of the victims on Facebook. "It is absurd to die like this" writes Di Maio, "as a government we will make maximum clarity on the dynamics of the affair (if all the safety rules have been respected) and identify those responsible".
According to what has been learned, someone would have used a stinging gas causing panic among the boys who had gone to the concert. In the crush that followed, many boys were overwhelmed.
What happened is very reminiscent of the gigantic crash triggered during the screening of the 2017 Champions League final in Piazza San Carlo in Turin, when one person died and hundreds were injured.
"You can not die like this at fifteen, a thought and a prayer for the six dead tonight in the Marches, and a hope for the thirteen serious injured still hospitalized" writes on Facebook Matteo Salvini, "And a commitment: find the managers of these six broken lives, who for wickedness, stupidity or greed has turned a party night into a tragedy ". The Minister of the Interior has also announced for "today at 11 in Piazza del Popolo a minute of silence to remember these guys".
According to a first reconstruction of the police, the panic broke out around one o'clock at night, when the public, a thousand people, was waiting for the concert to begin. "We felt an acrid smell and escaped," some witnesses said. Those who arrived later at the concert and were waiting to enter reported having seen "boys who coughed and had respiratory problems".
Inspections by firefighters and carabinieri are focusing on safety exits and respect for maximum capacity.
On the spot there is the public prosecutor, Paolo Gubinelli, who coordinates the investigations and has seized the premises. "It is too early to establish causes and responsibilities", said the provincial commander of the Carabinieri, Cristian Carrozza.
The attention of the investigators would be directed, in particular, to one of the security exits of the room where, according to a witness, "dozens of people would have fallen one above the other".
According to a boy of sixteen, who had gone with his girlfriend to attend the concert and who spoke with the Republic, as soon as he felt a strong acrid smell, everyone went to the safety exits, one of which was barred. Some boys tried to escape from jumping over a wall, but they were crushed by those who followed them.
The rescues were immediate: the fire brigade teams from Senigallia, Ancona, Jesi and Arcevia, all the ambulances available and the police forces intervened.
On the Facebook page of the local, where the managers have published a mourning image, there follow the comments of those who ask why the emergency doors were barred. "I thank God for being able to come back home," reads one of them.
