Odysseus arises from the combination of the most efficient and advanced photovoltaic technology and the engineering of ultralight materials. The result is a machine capable of flying forever - without emitting an ounce of waste - and capable of carrying the highest load ever achieved so far for a machine powered by the sun.
Compared to an ordinary satellite, the cost of this aircraft is derisory, and allows constant communication with the research and reception centers. It can operate from above the clouds and other aircraft, remaining around the Earth indefinitely, without ever disconnecting from its station and never needing supplies. Once a "mission" has been completed, it can be reprogrammed for the next task without being called back.
For meteorological investigations Odysseus will be an epochal turning point: its infinite flight capacity makes it perfect for measuring atmospheric variations over a long period of time and also for changes occurring on Earth as a result of climatic factors.
